Printmaking
One of my many passions is printmaking. I have come to enjoy being a very hands-on creator. I love being active, getting dirty, making little messes, cleaning, and in the process, creating some very strong, bold pieces. I relish the feeling I get when the labor-intensive process is complete and you get to see the fruits of your labor. Below are some of the best fruits.
The Processes
Here is a video featuring the installation process of a group screen-printing project. Feel free to take a peek!
Screen-printing
This is a printmaking technique in which mesh is used to transfer ink onto a given surface, except in areas that are blocked off with light-cured emulsion. The six images below, contain multiple layers of color (each color representing its own layer), all printed layer-by-layer on high-quality paper.
Title: "Shh..." 4-layer screen-print, 17" x 24"
Title: "Imperson8 (Gold)" 3-layer screen-print, 12" x 18"
Title: "Three Musketeers" 4-layer screen-print, 5" x 6"
Title: "O2" 4-layer screen-print, 13" x 18"
Title: "Bloom" 4-layer screen-print, 18" x 24"
Title: "Highs" 4-layer screen-print, 17" x 24"
Linocut / Relief Printmaking
This is another printing method where a printing block, most commonly made of linoleum, has ink applied to areas of the block that haven’t been carved away. When it is printed, the white areas of the image are what the artist has carved out of the block with special tools to create the image you see below.
Title: "Decay" - 12" x 18"
Title: "Aristocracy" - 24" x 36"
Title: "Contemplation" - 8" x 10"
Title: "Eternal Noir" - 24" x 36"
Title: "That New Girl" - 17" x 24"
Title: "Long Live the Queen" - 24" x 36"
Monotype
Monotype, in printmaking, is a technique that generally yields only one good impression or image from each prepared plate. Monotypes are prized because of their unique textural qualities. They are made by drawing on glass or transparent plexiglass with a greasy substance such as printer's ink. With that said, all of the images you see below are one-of-a-kind images part of a series for one of my characters, Zacchaeus Christianson.
Title: "Deception" - 24" x 36"
Title: "Not so Virgin Mary" - 12" x 18"
Title: "Facade" - 12" x 18"
Title: "Mommy" - 12" x 18"
Title: "Neglected" - 12" x 18"
